A new study funded by the federal government suggests that cannabis terpenes could be potential treatments for chronic neuropathic pain. Researchers found that an injected dose of these compounds led to a reduction in pain markers comparable to a smaller dose of morphine. When combined with morphine, terpenes also appeared to enhance its effectiveness.
Unlike morphine, however, none of the terpenes studied produced a significant reward response, indicating that they could be effective pain relievers without causing rewarding or dysphoric side effects.
