Advocates of hemp are energetically touting this once-stigmatized crop as a potential billion-dollar savior for Victoria’s struggling timber industry. They firmly believe that hemp holds the key to a sustainable alternative that can rejuvenate the sector. However, some politicians express concerns that promoting the hemp industry may inadvertently lead to the legalization of cannabis, thereby raising apprehensions about potential implications. The discussions primarily revolve around balancing the economic benefits of hemp with the perceived risks associated with cannabis legalization. It should be noted that certain varieties of the cannabis plant can be utilized to create a wide range of building materials, several of which exhibit heat or fire-resistant properties.
