Starting on Tuesday, August 1st, Minnesotans will have the legal right to possess and cultivate recreational marijuana, within specified limits aimed at maintaining control as the state establishes a comprehensive legal cannabis sector. The legalization bill, of considerable magnitude, received approval from the Democrat-controlled Minnesota Legislature and was signed by Democratic Governor Tim Walz in May.
In a move driven by their sovereignty, at least one Minnesota tribe intends to promptly initiate sales. However, the state anticipates that the majority of authorized retail transactions will not commence until early 2025. This delay is attributed to the formulation of a licensing and regulatory framework for the emerging industry.
