The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has officially removed marijuana from its list of banned substances for Division I players, starting immediately.
The decision comes approximately five months after the NCAA’s Division I Council first proposed the rule change. The NCAA adopted the new policy on Tuesday, highlighting that marijuana is not considered a performance-enhancing drug and should be regulated similarly to alcohol.
This reform expands upon a 2022 update that raised the allowable THC threshold for college athletes, bringing NCAA regulations more in line with those set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
