Terpenes, often called terpenoids, are important chemicals made by the cannabis plant. They create the plant’s distinct smell and give each type of cannabis its unique fragrance. Like cannabinoids, terpenes are produced in tiny hair-like structures on the plant’s buds and sometimes on its leaves, known as trichomes. Trichomes typically have a stem and a top part where most of the plant’s essential oils, including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other compounds, are found.
