What Does the Endocannabinoid System do? Leave a comment

You’ve heard of your nervous system, immune system, and muscles and bones system, but there’s also something called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is like a chemical system in your body that controls many other important systems. It has receptors in your brain, nerves, organs, immune cells, and even the tissues that connect everything. Its main job is to keep your body in balance.

Think of your body like a car driving on a rough road. You, as the driver, make small adjustments to stay on track. Similarly, the endocannabinoid system helps regulate your body and keeps things on the right track.

Dr. Debra Kimless, a specialist in cannabis and certified in anesthesiology, pain management, and lifestyle medicine, compares it to a system that gives feedback to control neurotransmitters. It slows down the chemicals in the nervous system that can become too active, carefully managing both our immune and nervous systems.
